 And the winners are …….

 * China’s Wine List of the Year 2015 – Mainland China

Franck

As custodian of this winning list, the Award for

China’s ‘Outstanding Sommelier’ 2015 – Mainland China, goes to Franck Pecol

Hearts of wine lovers will skip a beat upon sighting Franck’s wine list. Devoted exclusively to French wines, the majority representing innovative and daring makers, many organic or biodynamic, this list tingles with choices. The adventurous wine drinker will have fun seeking out the less travelled wine roads of Chinon, Chateauneuf -du-Pape or Loire.” Co-Chairman Peter Forrestal

Restaurant Petrus, Island Shangri-la Hong Kong

As custodian of this winning list, the Award for

China’s ‘Outstanding Sommelier’ 2015 – Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan goes to

Yohann Jousselin

A triumph of Master Sommelier Yohann Jousselin’s work, this is a near perfect collection of great wines, impressive wine producers and a remarkable collection of Petrus, dating back to the 1920s. Almost 1800 wines are found in this decadent yet carefully-chosen list, with by the glass elevated with top flight wines available via Coravin. Stupendous. ” Co-Chairman Peter Forrestal

Another extraordinary year of growth has seen the number of Glass winners in this year’s China’s Wine List of the Year Awards increase by 52% on 2014 to now reach 224 in total with the number of 3 Glass Awards – the highest level possible, up by an outstanding 58%!

Again this year the list of Award Winners reads like a Who’s Who of fine ‘wining and dining’ across Greater China, with 33 Awards presented to lists large and small, from small independent restaurants, clubs and wine bars, through to representation from virtually all of China’s major International Hotel and Resort Groups.

Quote from 2015 Co-Chairman Peter Forrestal ………………………………

“Now in its third year, China’s Wine List of the Year continues to document the increasing maturity of the hospitality industry in this country. The outstanding wine lists of past winners sparkle in the Awards’ Hall of Fame as Robuchon au Dome, L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon and Napa Wine Bar continue to offer a collection of great wines that few restaurants in the world can match. They are joined tonight by two more superstar lists from Restaurant Petrus of Hong Kong and Franck of Shanghai.

Quote from 2015 Co-Chairman Brian Julyan MS ………………………………..

“The winners and finalists this year have proved the Chinese wine scene to be the most exciting in the world today and fast developing into one of the highest quality, offering customers the choice of International superstars with a wide selection of affordable quality wines alongside exciting home grown gems. Great effort has been made to create lists which match the cuisine of the restaurants and provide an interesting but manageable list for the Sommelier. Congratulations to every one of the winners and finalists.

CHINA’S WINE LISTS OF THE YEAR – 2015

Mainland China: Franck (Shanghai)

” The winning list at Franck is smaller, although with 400 different wines it offers plenty of choice. It is an immaculately-curated wine list that focuses on the wines of France and supports its authentic bistro dishes. There’s a freshness and a vitality about Franck’s offering, an emphasis on youthful wines that is balanced by mature bottles for those looking for them. There’s a focus on the affordable wines of France with an adequate supply of its great wines for those looking to celebrate. It’s a compact list by the glass or carafe and yet the range of different wines styles means that few will fail to be delighted by the choice. This is a restaurant in which you can trust the sommelier and celebrate the diversity which France offers. ” Co-Chairman Peter Forrestal

 Franck Pecol: Sommelier

Hong Kong – Macau – Taiwan: Restaurant Petrus (Hong Kong)

”At Restaurant Petrus, customers can enjoy some of the world’s finest wines by the glass: Pol Roger ‘Winston Churchill, all the first growth Bordeaux, Y’quem, and naturally, Chateau Petrus. You can reach for the stars as, by the bottle, there’s close to 40 vintages of Petrus and all the great wines of the world. But this list has hidden strengths for those of us confined to this mortal world. Look at the collections from regions like Alsace, the Rhone Valley, Piedmont or at countries like New Zealand or Argentina. There are very good wines here, at affordable prices, some with pleasing maturity.” Co-Chairman Peter Forrestal

Yohann Jousselin: Sommelier
