2026, the 14th Anniversary of China’s Wine List of the Year Awards, saw another record year for the Awards and the big winners are China’s Hospitality and Tourism Industries and the nations ever more discerning consumers everywhere who benefit from the significant gains that are being achieved each year with the standard of China’s wine lists in so many venues across the country.
Each year the standard of the wine lists that showcase these industries, and are available to those consumers, continues to grow with the highest percentage ever of 2 and 3 Glass Wine Lists across China achieved in 2026. This represents exciting growth for the Industry in China, both in quantity and quality.
Quote from Awards Co-Chair of Judges Toni Paterson MW – It was evident in this year’s judging that the quality of wine lists across China continues to rise at an impressive pace. The most compelling lists are original in their selections and reflect the venue’s character and cuisine. The very best demonstrate the depth of knowledge and sophisticated approach of the sommeliers behind them.
Restaurants with dedicated cellaring programs stand tall, offering vintage breadth and depth that give the list distinction, while also recognising the importance of earlier-drinking wines which bring freshness and balance. It was particularly pleasing to see Chinese wines taking an increasingly prominent place on the lists, from respected icons to lesser-known names that reveal the diversity of styles across the regions. The growing breadth of the by-the-glass offerings encourages discovery and gives guests more opportunities to explore wines alongside food, including premium options served via Coravin. Thoughtful presentation and accurate information reflect the care and professionalism behind a great list. It is a pleasure to witness this evolution in restaurants across the country, affirming China’s standing as a destination for excellent dining and fine wine.
The outstanding result achieved in the Awards in China this year – despite the existing challenging trading environment, further demonstrates the growing commitment of Sommeliers, Managers and Business Owners to continue to pursue excellence in their businesses and what they deliver.
2026, saw a number of records broken with the following Awards achieving the highest number of nominees ever – for example, China’s Best Listing of Chinese Wines, China’s Best Chinese Restaurant, together with China’s Best Aperitif List, China’s Best Digestif List and China’s Best Champagne List. Another record year for China’s Best Listing of Chinese Wines is no doubt wonderful news for China’s growing domestic wine industry.
Overall, the largest and most competitive categories Sommeliers and Venues are pursuing in 2026 continue to be China’s Best Food and Wine Matching Wine List followed by China’s Best Wine by the Glass List. This augers so well for that dining consumer seeking not only guidance as to what is best for me to enjoy with what I am eating, but also the opportunity to trial, to explore, to learn whilst at the same time enabling those consumer who choose to today, to ‘drink less but better’!
Finally, it is very encouraging to hear of the positive impact on respective businesses that success in the Awards is bringing to the Awards Glass winners, those venues and sommeliers deserving of recognition and reward; especially given the outstanding levels they are achieving.
BACKGROUND / 背景
Established in 1993, the Wine List of the Year Awards were introduced by Tucker Seabrook (Established 1838) to recognise and reward the best quality wine lists each year in particular regions and countries. In 2012, Rob Hirst of Tucker Seabrook, the founders of the Wine List of the Year Awards and Tommy Lam of the Asia Wine Institute (AWI), the founder of the China National Sommelier Competition, and the China National Young Sommelier Team Competition, launched China’s first wine list Awards, China’s Wine List of the Year Awards; with the first year of judging in 2013.
“年度酒单大奖Wine List of the Year Awards”由Tucker Seabrook公司（创建于1838年）于1994年成立，目的是对任何一个国家内，为提升酒单质量所付出时间、技术和资源的餐厅和侍酒师的认可及表彰。今年已经是酒单大奖在中国走过的第13个年头——2012年，国际年度酒单大奖创办者Rob Hirst和中国侍酒师大赛创办者Tommy Lam在中国启动第一届中国年度酒单大奖（2013年度），开启了酒单大奖在大中华区的起航。
Now in 2026, the 14th Anniversary of the Awards, China’s Wine List of the Year Awards, includes more than 30 special Awards recognising Award and Glass winners from over 60 provinces and municipalities across mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.
Today, as one of the most anticipated events on China’s Hospitality and Tourism industry’s annual calendar, these prestigious awards have contributed significantly to the lifting of the standard of the nation’s Wine Lists. At the same time, the awards have recognised and rewarded the talents of many of the nation’s best Sommeliers and their supporting Owners, F&B Directors and Wine Managers.
如今，2026年中国年度最佳酒单大奖已增设30余项特别奖项，表彰来自中国大陆、香港、澳门和台湾60多个省市的获奖者。
作为中国酒店和旅游业年度盛事之一，这些享有盛誉的奖项极大地提升了全国酒单的整体水平。同时，这些奖项也认可并奖励了众多国内顶尖侍酒师及其背后的业主、餐饮总监和葡萄酒经理的卓越才能。
MISSION / 任务
China’s Wine List of the Year Award’s mission is to seek out, assess, recognise, and reward the very best Wine Lists across China. Including the finest restaurants, hotels, cafés, brasseries, bistros, pubs, wine bars and clubs; as well as their Sommeliers, Owners, F&B Directors and Managers.
The Awards have also been influential in raising the public’s interest in fine wine generally and have improved the consumers’ appreciation of those participating establishments.
Today, the list of past Award winners reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of outstanding establishments. It is a wonderful user map guiding consumers to the best wines to be found in the top restaurants, hotels, wine bars, cafés, pubs, and clubs across China.
中国年度酒单大奖的目标是为了寻找、评估、认可和奖励来自全国顶尖的餐厅、酒店、咖啡厅、酒馆、酒吧和俱乐部、航空公司、邮轮的优质酒单，以及这些机构的经营者、经理和侍酒师，帮助大众提高对优质葡萄酒的兴趣，提升消费者的认可度。今天，酒单大奖的获奖名单就像一个“品酒地图”，引导消费者在中国优秀的餐厅、酒店、葡萄酒酒吧、咖啡馆、酒吧、俱乐部和航空公司中找到优秀的葡萄酒。
JUDGES / 裁判
These China Awards will be judged by arguably the finest panel of independent Wine List judges ever assembled. The panel of over 20 Judges includes some of the world’s most respected international and Chinese experts in Wine, Wine Judging, Wine Service, and Wine Commentary; overseen by the Awards four Internationally respected Chairs –
- Chair – Toni Paterson MW – Master of Wine, wine writer, wine judge and 12-year Wine List of the Year Awards veteran,
- Deputy Chair – Jeni Port, continuing Awards Deputy Chair and veteran Awards Judge,
- Emeritus Chair – Peter Forrestal, immediate Past Chair, and veteran Awards Judge,
- International Chair – Brian Julyan MS – Master Sommelier and Founder and President of the Court of Master Sommeliers Worldwide.
The panel is made up of 6 Master Sommeliers, including a previous Best Sommelier in Asia-Oceania, plus 4 Masters of Wine, advisors to the China Sommelier Association – Preparation Committee, Wine Judges, as well as Writers and Commentators from some of the most respected publications both in China and around the World.
本次中国葡萄酒大奖将由堪称史上最优秀的独立葡萄酒单评审团进行评选。该评审团由20多位评委组成，其中包括一些世界顶尖的国际和中国葡萄酒专家，涵盖葡萄酒、葡萄酒评判、葡萄酒服务和葡萄酒评论等领域；评审团由四位国际知名的主席负责监督：
