JUDGING AND TIMING

An expert Judging Panel and International Supreme Panel comprised of Judges from China and around the world with expertise in the wine, food and hospitality industries will judge the entries. All entries will be judged individually on their merits based on content, balance, suitability, presentation and pricing of the wines on their wine lists. For further information on the criteria used for judging by the Panels visit www.winelistoftheyear.cn

THE JUDGING PANEL

The Judging Panel is made up of qualified and respected sommeliers, Masters of Wine and wine commentators, from China and overseas. The Chinese Judging Panel itself is divided into four, to ensure no judge is judging a list that comes from where they live. These International and Chinese Panels have the responsibility to judge every single list independently and determine the finalists.

Each establishment across China will have been judged by at least two Judges independently and given a rating. The best will receive either three glasses (Very Highly Recommended), two glasses (Highly Recommended), or one glass (Recommended).

Regional winners will be those establishments scoring highest points in each region, regardless of the Category in which they enter. Category winners will be those establishments scoring highest points in each Category, regardless of the Region from which they come. Each of the Categories will have a national winner. This will be awarded to the establishment scoring the highest points.

THE INTERNATIONAL SUPREME PANEL

To maintain the impartiality of the judging process, there is then a final round of judging where the top lists are rated by the International Supreme Panel. This Supreme Panel includes the Judging Panel as well as a distinguished group of experts from China and around the World

This Supreme Panel is comprised of some of the world’s most respected experts in Wine, Wine Service, and Wine Commentary. They include Master Sommeliers, including the Founder of the Court of Master Sommeliers and CEO in Europe, a former Decanter Magazine Man of the Year and a previous Best Sommelier in the World, and a former Best Sommelier in Asia-Oceania, plus Masters of Wine and Wine Commentators from some of the most respected publications both in China and around the World. It is these international voices of wine authority that will oversee the final selection of China’s finest lists and guarantee their recognition on the world stage.

The Panel, International Supreme Panel and the Chairmen’s decisions are final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into. A Category Award will only be issued where the judges determine one is merited.

Award winners and other results of the judging will be published online at www.winelistoftheyear.cn. Winners will be presented with their Awards at an Awards Presentation.

ENTRIES

Entries not completed in accordance with these terms and conditions or entries received later than the closing date may not be accepted. The Panel’s and/or the Promoter’s decision in relation to any aspect of the competition is final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into. The Promoter assumes no responsibility for any failure to receive an entry or for inaccurate information or for any loss, damage or injury as a result of technical or telecommunications problems, including security breaches. If such problems arise, then the Promoter may (where necessary with the approval of the relevant lottery authority) modify, cancel, terminate or suspend the promotion.

AUDIT

Entrants may be subject to a random audit by a representative of China’s Wine List of the Year Awards and/or an independent firm of Chartered Accountants in order to verify the entrant’s submitted wine list matches with the entrant’s wine cellar and/or order records.

FINALISTS

There will be one winner in each of the Seven Regions and one in each of the Categories, whereby the judges deem there is a suitable candidate. The highest point scoring entrants of each Region and Category will be eligible for the ‘China’s Wine List of the Year Award’.

The ‘China’s Wine List of the Year Award’ will be decided by the full panel of all the Chinese and International judges.
